Critical Care Nutrition at the Clinical Evaluation Research Unit (CERU)

is dedicated to improving nutrition therapies in the critically ill through knowledge generation, synthesis, and translation. We engage in a broad range of research activities and promote a culture of best practices in critical care nutrition. Ultimately, this will result in improved clinical outcomes for critically ill patients and increased efficiencies to our health care systems.

We asked the Best of the Best award winners from 2011 to let us know what they thought helped them acheive such outstanding nutrition performance in their ICUs. Click here  to see what they had to say, and to see samples of the tools and protocols that they use in their ICUs.
Publicizing The Survey Results
In the past, some Best of the Best award winners have drawn attention to their Best of the Best awards through press releases and newspaper articles (including Kingston General Hospital, Clinica Meta Adultos, and Trillium Health Centre) and/or journal article publications (The Alfred) and/or other forms of media, including radio broadcasts.

Denise Schwartz from Providence Saint Joseph's Medical Center sets another great example for all that can be acheived through participation in the International Nutrition Survey. Using 2007 Survey results as a starting point, Denise assessed her site's nutrition performance following implementation of practice changes. You may see a copy of her poster, which was presented at the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition in 2010,
